Important Message from Mrs. Taylor

Dear Parents of Le Roi Daniels,

 

First of all, I would like to thank each of you who were able to come and drive by for the reverse parade!  It was fantastic to see so many wonderful faces and see how much the students have grown in these past months!!

Secondly, your child's report card should now be accessible online in your Power School account. Please refer to last week's update for instructions on how to find your child's report cards.

Please remember to complete the following tasks over the next few weeks:

- Noon Supervision - if your child is eating lunch at school, you must register for this between August 1-31 on your Power School account

- please have your uniforms ordered and ready from McCarthy  www.mccarthyuniforms.ca  for the first day of school

Finally, please read in detail the immediate request for Transportation registration as it has bus stops and ridership has changed due to Covid - you MUST register to receive the email letting you know where your child will get on/off the bus.  It will NOT be posted on any website.  PLEASE REGISTER!!!

1. Transportation Pre-Reg. Deadline Now June 30  - if you don’t register; you will not have a stop designated to you!!

As we prepare for re-entry in September and make plans that include health guidelines and physical distancing requirements for busing, it is critical that families pre-register for transportation service as soon as possible.

The transportation pre-registration deadline has been extended to June 30, 2020.

 
Transportation pre-registration deadline extended
Due to the impact of COVID-19 on our system and families, the transportation pre-registration deadline has been extended to June 30, 2020. This year, routes will not be publicly posted on our website as adhering to COVID-19 guidelines means we will have to assign each student to a bus and a bus stop.
Reasons to pre-register:
• If families do not pre-register for transportation service prior to the end of June, their address will not be included as bus routes are planned meaning no transportation will be available. Only registered students will receive stop information for their primary address.  It may take several weeks to add a student to a route in the fall, and congregated stop locations are only reviewed once per year. As a result, your stop location may be much further away from your home, as your address was not included in the route planning.
• The use of a ZPass ridership card is mandatory to assist in contact tracing, and only registered riders are provided a ZPass ridership card.  Families may request a replacement card through their PowerSchool Parent Account.  (If you child still has their bus pass from last year, please keep it and attach it to their backpack for the first day of school).  If you have lost your card, please order a new one by June 30 to request a new one!.  If you have never used school bus services, please note that the cards will delivered to the school in the Fall.
• There is no requirement to pay at the time of registration, and there is no financial penalty if you register for bus service and cancel before the cancellation deadline of September 30, 2020.

Thank you so much for completing these tasks in a timely manner to set us up for success in the Fall.

I will provide one more update on June 30 (the last official day of school) and then you will not hear from me again until after the August 1 announcements from the Minister of Education.

Year End Goodbye!

Hi Room 15!

As the Grade 2 year comes to a close, please know that I loved getting to know each of you. I loved all of the risks you took to learn something new. I love that you stepped outside of your comfort zone to try a new strategy, grow in your social skills or share your ideas in a discussion. Each of you were brave in wonderfully, unique ways. You have all touched my heart. I will take a part of you with me as I too, go on to a new adventure. I am confident that you will all be Superheroes next year in Grade 3. Until I see you....

Reverse Car Parade on Tuesday!

Hi Families,

I am so excited to see you on Tuesday, June 23rd for the Le Roi Daniels Reverse Car Parade!

Please see below for important information:

3) Thursday (date change due to weather conditions) TUESDAY June 23, 2020 is an important day for us as staff to celebrate and say good bye to you as families and students.  Many community schools have had the opportunity to drive through their communities to wave and smile at their students and families.   As we have multiple communities that attend our school we are unable to come to you but we are inviting you to come see us in a REVERSE CAR PARADE!!!

 

​Please plan to drive by the school on TUESDAY JUNE 23 according to the following schedule :

 

10:30 - 10:50 - students with last name beginning with A-G

10:50 - 11:10 - students with last name beginning with H-P

11:10 - 11:30 - students with last name beginning with Q -Z

 

Staff will be outside along the route to wave and cheer a farewell to you as you get ready for an amazing summer break and say goodbye to the unprecedented 2019-2020 school year! This parade is happening rain or shine, the Le Roi Daniels staff is very excited to see each of you and say good bye in person 🙂

 

VERY IMPORTANT ITEMS TO REMEMBER:

• Please follow the attached map route to alleviate traffic congestion on Fairmont drive
• All students MUST remain in the vehicles
• The playground is closed during this time
• This school is closed during this time
• Please leave LOTS of room between vehicles while driving as we want everyone to be safe during the car parade.

Google Meet Theme Next Week

Hi Room 15,

It was so amazing to chat with all of you today during our Google Meet. It seriously is my favorite time of the week to see all of your smiling faces and hear what you have been doing. I miss you all!

For our LAST Google Meet on Monday, I thought it would be so fun to:

1. Build your own fort, take your device (if possible) and share our last Google Meet in a unique and special location that you created. 

2. Each student will have a chance to share 2 words that describe their experience in Grade 2 (we are focusing on the time from September-March 13th). Please talk with your child to help them choose meaningful words that they feel best represent their memories and time in our class at Le Roi Daniels this year. 

I will record all of the words and create something special to share with you all!

R U ready to build a FORT and share your two favorite words from the year from inside your fort?!?!?

You may want to have a flashlight 🔦, sit on pillows, put a blanket over your head - fun!  You decide what you'd like your fort to look like). If you choose to make a fort (it is optional) PLEASE have it built b4 our meeting. 

3. You can also wear crazy hair or bring a fun hat or both! 

4. Then, we will have a small dance party at the end too to celebrate the end of the school year!

Guided Drawing Instructions

Hi Room 15!

I loved chatting with you today! Thank you for joining us.

Here are the Guided Drawing Instructions in case you missed them:

1) Put your page landscape style.
2) Draw a big circle in the middle, not touching the edges of the page.
3) Draw a triangle on either the right of left side of the circle and have the point facing out.
4) Draw a smaller circle inside the other circle near the top middle part of it.
5) Draw a large oval shape below the big circle, just touching the bottom of the circle.
6) Draw 2 tiny stick feet below the oval.
7) Draw 3 horizontal W's on the inside and right side of the oval.
8) Draw a line across the oval from one side of the page to the other, but not through the oval.
9) Draw an arc at the bottom of the big circle towards the middle that is on the same side as the triangle you drew.
10) Draw three uppercase M's in the top space of the page, not touching each other.
11) Colour in half of the small circle black.
12) Colour the triangle yellow. Colour the rest of the inside of the big circle green. Colour the oval brown. Colour the area below the line blue. Colour the M's, the W's and the tiny stick feet black.
13) Write the word "QUACK" beside the big circle in a speech bubble.
Do you know what animal you tried to create?  Yes, a duck!!

Google Meet Theme June 15th

Hi Room 15!

Tomorrow we will be doing a guided drawing (no math this time). Please bring a blank piece of paper, pencil, eraser and, if possible, pencil crayons to our meeting.

I hope you had a wonderful weekend. It saddens me to see all of the damage caused from the storm on Friday and I hope none of our Le Roi Daniels families are affected. 

Please check your mailbox later this week for a personal                                               letter from me. My children helped "decorate" the back of                                               the envelope so I hope the postman doesn't mind. We                                                  walked the letters to the mailbox on Friday so I am                                                       hoping they make it to you by the end of this week.

Raz Kids Reading Assessments

Oh, how I have missed listening to you read. Your little voices brought me so much joy when I listened to your Raz Kids reading assessment. Parents, thank you so much for all of the work you have been doing with your children to support their learning at home. It makes so happy to see that learning is still happening outside of the classroom.  Students, you have all done an amazing job and I am very proud of you!

Leaving Le Roi Daniels

As you may have seen in your June newsletter, I am moving on from Le Roi Daniels. After twelve wonderful years of working at the school, I have decided it is time to venture on to another teaching adventure. I have truly loved teaching all of my students (past and present), meeting every family and being surrounded with the most supportive colleagues. I will definitely miss my Le Roi Daniels family.

While I do not know my destination or teaching assignment at this point, I do know it will bring me growth and find me in a new CBE classroom with students just like you that are eager to learn. I wish all students the very best next year and will try to come visit. Thank you for enriching my passion for teaching and touching my soul in your own unique way.

How to Make a Lava Lamp

60 SECOND CHALLENGE - Petal Pressure 

WHAT YOU WILL NEED: Wide bowl or deep plate filled with water Construction paper (standard paper will not work) Scissors Pencil WHAT YOU DO: Step 1: Cut a square piece of construction paper that fits inside the bowl. Fold it in half. Step 2: Fold the paper in half again to make a square. Step 3: Fold it in half again to make a triangle. Step 4: One tip of the triangle has only folds, and no edges. This is the middle of your flower. Do not cut this tip! Start 1cm (3/8 in.) from this tip and cut a petal shape out of the rest of the triangle. Unfold the paper, and you will have made a flower! Step 5: Use a pencil to roll up the petals of the flower so that it looks as if the flower is closed. Step 6: Drop the flower into the water and watch the petals. What happens? WHAT'S HAPPENING? You used capillary action to make your flower bloom! Water has many important properties and functions. In plants, water acts like a skeleton, allowing the leaf to hold itself up. This pressure that keeps leaves up is called turgor pressure. When leaves on a plant wilt and become droopy it is because there is not enough water to maintain this pressure. The plant is not dead when this happens, but it is a sign that it is time to water your plants - and soon! The stem of a plant is a transportation system filled with tiny tubes called capillaries. The attractive force between molecules of water and the sides of capillaries is strong enough to draw water up the plant, just as water was drawn up the paper to make your flower bloom! In the tallest of trees, capillary action can draw water up dozens of meters!
